list-targets-by-rule
is a paginated operation. Multiple API calls may be issued in order to retrieve the entire data set of results. You can disable pagination by providing the --no-paginate
argument.
When using --output text
and the --query
argument on a paginated response, the --query
argument must extract data from the results of the following query expressions: Targets
list-targets-by-rule
--rule <value>
[--event-bus-name <value>]

[--no-cli-auto-prompt]
--rule
(string)
The name of the rule.
--event-bus-name
(string)
The name or ARN of the event bus associated with the rule. If you omit this, the default event bus is used.
--cli-input-json
| --cli-input-yaml
(string)
Reads arguments from the JSON string provided. The JSON string follows the format provided by --generate-cli-skeleton
. If other arguments are provided on the command line, those values will override the JSON-provided values. It is not possible to pass arbitrary binary values using a JSON-provided value as the string will be taken literally. This may not be specified along with --cli-input-yaml
.
--starting-token
(string)
A token to specify where to start paginating. This is the
NextToken
from a previously truncated response.For usage examples, see Pagination in the AWS Command Line Interface User Guide .
--page-size
(integer)
The size of each page to get in the AWS service call. This does not affect the number of items returned in the command’s output. Setting a smaller page size results in more calls to the AWS service, retrieving fewer items in each call. This can help prevent the AWS service calls from timing out.
For usage examples, see Pagination in the AWS Command Line Interface User Guide .
--max-items
(integer)
The total number of items to return in the command’s output. If the total number of items available is more than the value specified, a
NextToken
is provided in the command’s output. To resume pagination, provide theNextToken
value in thestarting-token
argument of a subsequent command. Do not use theNextToken
response element directly outside of the AWS CLI.For usage examples, see Pagination in the AWS Command Line Interface User Guide .
--generate-cli-skeleton
(string)
Prints a JSON skeleton to standard output without sending an API request. If provided with no value or the value input
, prints a sample input JSON that can be used as an argument for --cli-input-json
. Similarly, if provided yaml-input
it will print a sample input YAML that can be used with --cli-input-yaml
. If provided with the value output
, it validates the command inputs and returns a sample output JSON for that command. The generated JSON skeleton is not stable between versions of the AWS CLI and there are no backwards compatibility guarantees in the JSON skeleton generated.
--debug
(boolean)
Turn on debug logging.
--endpoint-url
(string)
Override command’s default URL with the given URL.
--no-verify-ssl
(boolean)
By default, the AWS CLI uses SSL when communicating with AWS services. For each SSL connection, the AWS CLI will verify SSL certificates. This option overrides the default behavior of verifying SSL certificates.
--no-paginate
(boolean)
Disable automatic pagination. If automatic pagination is disabled, the AWS CLI will only make one call, for the first page of results.
--output
(string)
The formatting style for command output.
--query
(string)
A JMESPath query to use in filtering the response data.
--profile
(string)
Use a specific profile from your credential file.
--region
(string)
The region to use. Overrides config/env settings.
--version
(string)
Display the version of this tool.
--color
(string)
Turn on/off color output.
--no-sign-request
(boolean)
Do not sign requests. Credentials will not be loaded if this argument is provided.
--ca-bundle
(string)
The CA certificate bundle to use when verifying SSL certificates. Overrides config/env settings.
--cli-read-timeout
(int)
The maximum socket read time in seconds. If the value is set to 0, the socket read will be blocking and not timeout. The default value is 60 seconds.
--cli-connect-timeout
(int)
The maximum socket connect time in seconds. If the value is set to 0, the socket connect will be blocking and not timeout. The default value is 60 seconds.
--cli-binary-format
(string)
The formatting style to be used for binary blobs. The default format is base64. The base64 format expects binary blobs to be provided as a base64 encoded string. The raw-in-base64-out format preserves compatibility with AWS CLI V1 behavior and binary values must be passed literally. When providing contents from a file that map to a binary blob fileb://
will always be treated as binary and use the file contents directly regardless of the cli-binary-format
setting. When using file://
the file contents will need to properly formatted for the configured cli-binary-format
.
--no-cli-pager
(boolean)
Disable cli pager for output.
--cli-auto-prompt
(boolean)
Automatically prompt for CLI input parameters.
--no-cli-auto-prompt
(boolean)
Disable automatically prompt for CLI input parameters.
To use the following examples, you must have the AWS CLI installed and configured. See the Getting started guide in the AWS CLI User Guide for more information.
Unless otherwise stated, all examples have unix-like quotation rules. These examples will need to be adapted to your terminal’s quoting rules. See Using quotation marks with strings in the AWS CLI User Guide .
To display all the targets for a CloudWatch Events rule
This example displays all the targets of the rule named DailyLambdaFunction:
aws events list-targets-by-rule --rule "DailyLambdaFunction"
Targets -> (list)
The targets assigned to the rule.
(structure)
Targets are the resources to be invoked when a rule is triggered. For a complete list of services and resources that can be set as a target, see PutTargets .
If you are setting the event bus of another account as the target, and that account granted permission to your account through an organization instead of directly by the account ID, then you must specify a
RoleArn
with proper permissions in theTarget
structure. For more information, see Sending and Receiving Events Between Amazon Web Services Accounts in the Amazon EventBridge User Guide .Id -> (string)
The ID of the target within the specified rule. Use this ID to reference the target when updating the rule. We recommend using a memorable and unique string.Arn -> (string)
The Amazon Resource Name (ARN) of the target.RoleArn -> (string)
The Amazon Resource Name (ARN) of the IAM role to be used for this target when the rule is triggered. If one rule triggers multiple targets, you can use a different IAM role for each target.Input -> (string)
Valid JSON text passed to the target. In this case, nothing from the event itself is passed to the target. For more information, see The JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) Data Interchange Format .InputPath -> (string)
The value of the JSONPath that is used for extracting part of the matched event when passing it to the target. You may use JSON dot notation or bracket notation. For more information about JSON paths, see JSONPath .InputTransformer -> (structure)
Settings to enable you to provide custom input to a target based on certain event data. You can extract one or more key-value pairs from the event and then use that data to send customized input to the target.
InputPathsMap -> (map)
Map of JSON paths to be extracted from the event. You can then insert these in the template in
InputTemplate
to produce the output you want to be sent to the target.InputPathsMap
is an array key-value pairs, where each value is a valid JSON path. You can have as many as 100 key-value pairs. You must use JSON dot notation, not bracket notation.The keys cannot start with “Amazon Web Services.”
key -> (string)
value -> (string)
InputTemplate -> (string)
Input template where you specify placeholders that will be filled with the values of the keys from
InputPathsMap
to customize the data sent to the target. Enclose eachInputPathsMaps
value in brackets: <value >If
InputTemplate
is a JSON object (surrounded by curly braces), the following restrictions apply:
- The placeholder cannot be used as an object key.
The following example shows the syntax for using
InputPathsMap
andInputTemplate
.
"InputTransformer":
{
"InputPathsMap": {"instance": "$.detail.instance","status": "$.detail.status"},
"InputTemplate": "<instance> is in state <status>"
}
To have the
InputTemplate
include quote marks within a JSON string, escape each quote marks with a slash, as in the following example:
"InputTransformer":
{
"InputPathsMap": {"instance": "$.detail.instance","status": "$.detail.status"},
"InputTemplate": "<instance> is in state \"<status>\""
}
The
InputTemplate
can also be valid JSON with varibles in quotes or out, as in the following example:
"InputTransformer":
{
"InputPathsMap": {"instance": "$.detail.instance","status": "$.detail.status"},
"InputTemplate": '{"myInstance": <instance>,"myStatus": "<instance> is in state \"<status>\""}'
}
KinesisParameters -> (structure)
The custom parameter you can use to control the shard assignment, when the target is a Kinesis data stream. If you do not include this parameter, the default is to use the
eventId
as the partition key.PartitionKeyPath -> (string)
The JSON path to be extracted from the event and used as the partition key. For more information, see Amazon Kinesis Streams Key Concepts in the Amazon Kinesis Streams Developer Guide .RunCommandParameters -> (structure)

(structure)
The task placement strategy for a task or service. To learn more, see Task Placement Strategies in the Amazon Elastic Container Service Service Developer Guide.
type -> (string)
The type of placement strategy. The random placement strategy randomly places tasks on available candidates. The spread placement strategy spreads placement across available candidates evenly based on the field parameter. The binpack strategy places tasks on available candidates that have the least available amount of the resource that is specified with the field parameter. For example, if you binpack on memory, a task is placed on the instance with the least amount of remaining memory (but still enough to run the task).field -> (string)
The field to apply the placement strategy against. For the spread placement strategy, valid values are instanceId (or host, which has the same effect), or any platform or custom attribute that is applied to a container instance, such as attribute:ecs.availability-zone. For the binpack placement strategy, valid values are cpu and memory. For the random placement strategy, this field is not used.PropagateTags -> (string)
