[ aws . lightsail ]

Creates a block storage disk that can be attached to an Amazon Lightsail instance in the same Availability Zone (e.g., us-east-2a ).

The create disk operation supports tag-based access control via request tags. For more information, see the Amazon Lightsail Developer Guide .

See ‘aws help’ for descriptions of global parameters.

--disk-name <value>
--availability-zone <value>
--size-in-gb <value>
[--tags <value>]
[--add-ons <value>]
[--cli-input-json | --cli-input-yaml]
[--generate-cli-skeleton <value>]

--disk-name (string)

The unique Lightsail disk name (e.g., my-disk ).

--availability-zone (string)

The Availability Zone where you want to create the disk (e.g., us-east-2a ). Use the same Availability Zone as the Lightsail instance to which you want to attach the disk.

Use the get regions operation to list the Availability Zones where Lightsail is currently available.

--size-in-gb (integer)

The size of the disk in GB (e.g., 32 ).

--tags (list)

The tag keys and optional values to add to the resource during create.

Use the TagResource action to tag a resource after it’s created.

Describes a tag key and optional value assigned to an Amazon Lightsail resource.

For more information about tags in Lightsail, see the Amazon Lightsail Developer Guide .

key -> (string)

The key of the tag.

Constraints: Tag keys accept a maximum of 128 letters, numbers, spaces in UTF-8, or the following characters: + - = . _ : / @

value -> (string)

The value of the tag.

Constraints: Tag values accept a maximum of 256 letters, numbers, spaces in UTF-8, or the following characters: + - = . _ : / @

Shorthand Syntax:

key=string,value=string ...

JSON Syntax:

    "key": "string",
    "value": "string"

--add-ons (list)

An array of objects that represent the add-ons to enable for the new disk.

Describes a request to enable, modify, or disable an add-on for an Amazon Lightsail resource.

An additional cost may be associated with enabling add-ons. For more information, see the Lightsail pricing page .

addOnType -> (string)

The add-on type.

autoSnapshotAddOnRequest -> (structure)

An object that represents additional parameters when enabling or modifying the automatic snapshot add-on.

snapshotTimeOfDay -> (string)

The daily time when an automatic snapshot will be created.

  • Must be in HH:00 format, and in an hourly increment.

  • Specified in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).

  • The snapshot will be automatically created between the time specified and up to 45 minutes after.

Shorthand Syntax:

addOnType=string,autoSnapshotAddOnRequest={snapshotTimeOfDay=string} ...

JSON Syntax:

    "addOnType": "AutoSnapshot",
    "autoSnapshotAddOnRequest": {
      "snapshotTimeOfDay": "string"

--cli-input-json | --cli-input-yaml (string) Reads arguments from the JSON string provided. The JSON string follows the format provided by --generate-cli-skeleton. If other arguments are provided on the command line, those values will override the JSON-provided values. It is not possible to pass arbitrary binary values using a JSON-provided value as the string will be taken literally. This may not be specified along with --cli-input-yaml.

--generate-cli-skeleton (string) Prints a JSON skeleton to standard output without sending an API request. If provided with no value or the value input, prints a sample input JSON that can be used as an argument for --cli-input-json. Similarly, if provided yaml-input it will print a sample input YAML that can be used with --cli-input-yaml. If provided with the value output, it validates the command inputs and returns a sample output JSON for that command.

See ‘aws help’ for descriptions of global parameters.

To create a block storage disk

The following create-disk example creates a block storage disk Disk-1 in the specified AWS Region and Availability Zone, with 32 GB of storage space.

aws lightsail create-disk \
    --disk-name Disk-1 \
    --availability-zone us-west-2a \
    --size-in-gb 32
